چکیده

Aim: Silicosis has long been recognized as an important occupational lung disease that is included in the group of pneumoconiosis. As already well-known silicosis a progressive pneumoconiosis characterized by fibrosis lungs. Also, chronic exposure to silica may cause obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, cancer, and fibrosis. Asymmetric dimethyl arginine (ADMA), symmetric (SDMA), L-NMMA (NG-mono-methylated-L-arginine) are products protein methyltransferase (PRMT) enzymes. The aim this study investigate relationship between metabolites exposed non-exposed workers.
Material Method: 180 male subjects (90 workers (age matched-control) 90 diagnosed with physician based on radiological clinical findings history-(silica-exposed) were study. serum levels arginine, ADMA, SDMA, determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
Results: values significantly higher silica-exposed compared control group. positive correlations observed methylated parameters such ADMA (r=0.43, r=0.60; p

Silicosis among Stone- Cutter Workers: A Cross-Sectional Study

BACKGROUND Production process of most factory-made products is harmful to our health and environment. Silica is the most important stone used in stone cutting factories. Numerous researches have reported respiratory diseases due to the inhalation of these particles in various occupations. Silicosis is a disease with typical radiographic pattern caused as the result of inhalation of silica parti...

A convenient method to generate methylated and un-methylated control DNA in methylation studies

Methylated and un-methylated control DNA is an important part of DNA methylation studies. Although human and mouse DNA methylation control sets are commercially available, in case of methylation studies on other species such as animals, plants, and bacteria, control sets need to be prepared. In this paper a simple method of generating methylated and un-methylated control DNA is described. Whole...

Transsulfuration Pathway Thiols and Methylated Arginines: The Hunter Community Study

BACKGROUND Serum homocysteine, when studied singly, has been reported to be positively associated both with the endogenous nitric oxide synthase inhibitor asymmetric dimethylarginine [ADMA, via inhibition of dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase (DDAH) activity] and with symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA). We investigated combined associations between transsulfuration pathway thiols, including...

Muscle strength in diabetics compared to non-diabetic elderly subjects: A cross sectional and case-control study

Background: With the growing population of the elderly, the prevalence of disabilities and chronic diseases will also likely increase. Muscle weakness leads to low amounts of physical activity in elderly diabetic patients and makes them susceptible to falls. In this study, we aimed to compare the muscle strength between diabetic and non-diabetic elderly individuals. Methods: The present study ...

Cor pulmonale and silicosis: a necropsy based case-control study.

The presence of cor pulmonale at death in relation to other factors such as emphysema, silicosis, and thromboembolism was analysed in a case-control study of 732 South African gold miners. Marked emphysema was the highest risk factor with an odds ratio of 21.32 (95% confidence interval (95% CI) 5.02-90.7), then extensive silicosis (OR 4.95, 95% CI 2.92-8.38) and thromboembolic disease (OR 1.92,...
